A common question we get at Skyline Gutters is, “Do we really need all of these downspouts?”

A lot of homes are built with smaller gutter systems that have limited water-carrying capacity. Because of that, installers will often add extra downspouts just to keep up with the amount of runoff coming off the roof. The problem is that this can lead to water being dumped in inconvenient places like walkways, driveways, patios, or near your home’s foundation.

Here in New England, that’s more than just annoying. When water is discharged in these areas, it often turns into ice in the winter and creates slippery, unsafe conditions right where people walk in and out of the home.

At Skyline Gutters, we install 5”, 6”, 7”, and 8” K-Style gutter systems. By upgrading to a larger gutter size, we’re often able to carry water further through the gutter itself, which allows us to safely reduce the number of downspouts needed on your home.

When we install a larger gutter system, we also pair it with a larger downspout. Instead of using a typical 2”x3” downspout, we can install a 3”x4” or even a 4”x5” downspout to safely handle the increased water flow coming from the roof.

Rather than dumping water in multiple locations around your home, a properly sized 6”, 7”, or 8” gutter system paired with a 3”x4” or 4”x5” downspout allows us to channel water to more appropriate discharge points away from foot traffic and sensitive areas.
